Assault and ecstasy find are subjects of recent EPS investigations

Estevan Police Service (EPS) members have opened an investigation into an assault on an 18-year-old Estevan woman that was reported to them on the night of Jan. 27.

The man the police have focused their attention on in this incident, was known to the victim.

On that same evening, police charged a 29-year-old Calgary man with theft of goods or services valued at under $5,000 following a dispute he had with a local hotel.

A 25-year-old Regina man was charged with impaired driving on the night of Jan. 27. After his charges were processed, the man was released to the care of a friend.

An 18-year-old Estevan man was charged for possession of marijuana. The man was found to be in possession of less than 30 grams so the charges were laid accordingly.

A report was received by police regarding a man who was driving erratically on the night of Jan. 27. His actions frightened several other drivers who had encountered him on the road.

The police investigation into this incident remains open.

EPS members were called to a local lounge on the night of Jan. 28, when a packet containing a white, powdery substance was located by a staff member on the floor of the facility.

The item was seized and then tested positive as ecstasy, a prohibited drug.

The investigation into this matter remains active.

Police attended to another local lounge a short time later in response to a report of a disturbance caused by two patrons.

Police learned that the instigator had left the scene as police arrived so no further action was taken.
But shortly after they left the lounge, they were called back to address a concern regarding a subject who was passed out at his table. When he was finally awakened, the man initially refused to leave, but with the urging of police, the 39-year-old subject was escorted from the building and arrested for being intoxicated in public. He remained in custody until sober and was released later.

A 29-year-old man is facing charges for driving while his blood-alcohol level was over .08 per cent and for impaired driving after he was arrested by police during a routine traffic stop on the night of Jan. 28. Police noted the driver's actions caught their attention and that led to the stop and subsequent arrest.

The driver now has a Feb. 14 court date.

Police were called to a domestic disturbance in the Pleasantdale area of the city on the night of Jan. 29.

The 35-year-old woman involved in the incident, who had been drinking , agreed to spend the night at another location. She was transported to the alternate location by police but it was learned that she left shortly after she arrived so she was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and lodged in cells until sober.

A 32-year-old man is facing charges of driving while impaired and for refusing to provide a breath sample after EPS members responded to a complaint.

The man was arrested and lodged in cells and released later with a March 7 court appearance date.

A complaint of mischief was looked into by police on the night of Jan. 29. A resident in the central part of the city had noted that someone unknown to her had thrown garbage around her yard. The matter remains under investigation.

On that same night, a 27-year-old man had his driver's licence suspended for 24 hours following a routine traffic stop on the north side of the city.
