SOUTHERN SASKATCHEWAN - Environment Canada has lifted the special air quality statement that was in effect for parts of southern Saskatchewan, but the advisory remains in other areas.

The advisory has now ended for Regina, Moose Jaw, Estevan, Weyburn, Carlyle and other areas in the south. But it remains for Assiniboia, Swift Current, Shaunavon, Maple Creek and surrounding communities.

The initial advisory was issued Thursday morning due to wildfire smoke originating from B.C. and Alberta.

Environment Canada said westerly winds have ushered in the smoke, leading to poor air quality readings. The agency added areas in the southwest and along the Alberta border will continue to see poor air quality until early Monday.
