REGINA – A fraudulent attempt to purchase gold resulted in a court appearance for one woman.
Appearing from the prisoner’s box in Regina Provincial Court this morning, Kathleen VanLeeuwen listened as Judge M. J. Hinds read a list of six charges before her.
The charges stem from an incident on June 10 when VanLeeuwen allegedly obtained identity documents of someone else, including a birth certificate, photo identification, and Social Insurance Number. She then allegedly impersonated that individual and attempted to buy 18 ounces of gold from a local goldsmith.
The Crown is opposed to VanLeeuwen’s release, and the accused requested the assistance of a Legal Aid lawyer to assist in her bail hearing.
VanLeeuwen is remanded until her next court appearance, slated for tomorrow.
