Accidents, theft and reckless drivers keep police fully engaged

A collision involving a vehicle operated by a 90-year-old Estevan woman and a motorcycle being driven by a 60-year-old Estevan man resulted in the driver of the motorcycle being transported to hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

The Estevan Police Service were called to a two vehicle collision Aug. 2 after a vehicle operated by a 90-year-old Estevan woman struck a motorcycle.


A collision involving a vehicle operated by a 90-year-old Estevan woman and a motorcycle being driven by a 60-year-old Estevan man resulted in the driver of the motorcycle being transported to hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

The woman was charged with operating a motor vehicle without due care and attention.

The incident occurred during the day of Aug. 2 said members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) who investigated the accident.

A second motor vehicle accident was reported that same day. This incident occurred on Kensington Avenue near an entrance to the Wal-Mart parking lot. No injuries were noted but one of the vehicles needed to be towed from the scene.

Later that same day EPS members were required to assist in directing traffic when the driver of a semi-tractor unit experienced difficulty while maneuvering the unit around a specific area on Kensington Avenue.

On the night of Aug. 3, EPS received a report of several items going missing from a vehicle that was parked in the northeast area of the city. A potential suspect has been identified and police are continuing their investigation.

A hit-and-run incident was also recorded by police on the night of Aug. 3. A vehicle leaving Estevan on Highway 47 north was struck by another vehicle entering Estevan, heading south on the same highway. Damage was inflicted on the driver's side rearview mirror as a result of the mishap. The matter remains under investigation.

A call from a local restaurant regarding people operating their vehicles in an unsafe manner in their parking lot led to police action. The EPS members managed to locate the suspects and spoke to them about their driving activities.

A noisy party on the city's north side resulted in a visit from the police on the night of Aug. 3. The owner of the residence was warned about the city's noise bylaw.

On the night of Aug. 5, three men were arrested for being intoxicated in public. One of them was also charged with being in breach of an undertaking and was remanded in custody pending his Aug. 8 court date.

A 41-year-old Bienfait man was charged with impaired drinking and driving while his blood-alcohol level was over .08 on the night of Aug. 6.
That same night a 33-year-old Bienfait man was charged with driving while suspended, speeding, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and misuse of licence plates when he was stopped by members of the EPS.

Estevan police also noted they laid several other charges against individuals related to liquor and speeding offences.
