The Â鶹´«Ã½AVern Rebels Junior Hockey Club picked winners for the 29th annual Smiles Per Mile Lotto at a recent home game on February 1, and the Â鶹´«Ã½AVland Co-op administration staff won the 50/50 draw worth $17,947.50. They were thrilled with their win and excited by the news. From the left are Gerald Svenson, Karen Shenher, Wanda O’Reilly, Sonja Dahlman, Laura Moneo and Julianne Heagy.
The 50/50 draw was one of 16 prizes in the lottery. The grand prize of $50,000, or a choice of three other major prizes, was won by Claude and Marielle Dionne of Willow Bunch. The grand prizewinner could select either the cash, or one of three vehicles supplied by Nelson GM, or a Kubota package or an Arctic Cat Recreation package. The residents of Willow Bunch seem to be extra lucky because Andre Cayer of Willow Bunch also took home the $5,000 early bird prize drawn on December 23 at the Spencer Mattson memorial hockey game.
Several other prizes were drawn. The second prize was $3,000 cash won by Brent Blackwell of Assiniboia, third prize of $2,000 cash went to Bev and Les Coldwell of Assiniboia, and fourth prize of $1,000 went to Aaron Koller of Assiniboia. The fifth prize of $800 or a compound saw went to Allan Popescu of Kayville. The sixth prize of $500 or a pressure washer went to Andrew Lasota of Chaplin, and the seventh prize of $250 cash or a water dispenser went to John and Jeannette Kupczynski of Shaunavon. The eighth prize of $250 cash or a 3PC conversation centre went to Martin Tendler of Assiniboia, and the ninth prize of $200 or an espresso machine went to Barry Sharpe of Yorkton. The tenth prize of $200 cash or a wet-dry vac went to Trenton Karst of Assiniboia, and the eleventh prize of $200 cash or a Dewalt cordless drill went to Dan Young and Stacey Batty of Congress. The twelfth prize of $150 cash or a water fountain went to Dan Punter of Eatonia, and the thirteenth prize of $150 cash or an electric mower went to Travis Eldstrom of Assiniboia. The final prize was $150 cash or a portable icemaker went to Riley Fafard of Assiniboia. The Smiles Per Mile Lotto is a major fundraiser for the Â鶹´«Ã½AVern Rebels Junior Hockey Club and helps to cover such expenses as ice rental, meals, some equipment, coaches and other expenses. The lottery was first called the Bred Cow Raffle and its top prize was cash or a bred cow. Today, the lottery has expanded to offer a variety of substantial prizes.
