Show attracts many Ford vehicles

Ford cars and trucks remain a popular option for antique automobile enthusiasts and collectors, and the love that many have for Fords was on full display this past the weekend.

The third annual all-Ford-powered show and shine was held on June 4 at the Senchuk Ford Sales parking lot. Not only were the vehicles on display built by Ford, but they had to have a Ford engine.

The event was organized by the Knights of the Blue Oval, which was, at one time, a club of six to eight people who gathered to celebrate their love of Fords and to have cruise nights. They met regularly in the 1980s and 1990s, but eventually folded.

Tom Haygarth, who was part of that initial group, resurrected the club a few years ago to promote the all-Ford show and shine. While he would like to see the club be more active, the top priority is the event.

鈥淚 always thought it would be nice to see the Fords together again, so I talked to Senchuk Ford here, and asked if we could have a Ford show here, and they said yes,鈥 said Haygarth.

He was hoping they could attract about 40 Ford vehicles for the event. Haygarth noted that among the vehicles present was a black and white 1957 Ford Skyliner Hideaway hardtop. There were also some muscle cars, including Ford Mustangs.

But Haygarth wasn鈥檛 able to have his Fords at the event, because they weren鈥檛 ready. He is currently restoring a two-door 1955 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria, but it is in 鈥渁 million pieces,鈥 he said. He also has a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 two-door hardtop, but it is also in need of a lot of work.

Haygarth wants people to realize that Ford vehicles belong among collector cars just as much as any other brand.

鈥淚 was raised in a family where dad drove Fords, and that鈥檚 where my affinity for them started,鈥 Haygarth said.

Other highlights from the show and shine were a barbecue lunch served by the Estevan Humane Society, and music provided by a DJ.聽
