SaskTel reported net income of $119.8 million: growth from wireless network services

SaskTel said these figures revealed sustained wireless adoption and amplified revenue from wireline growth services

SaskTel said their revenue derived mainly from wireless network services and equipment revenue (44.9 per cent), maxTV service, internet and data (29.4 per cent), local access, improved services and long distance (15.2 per cent).听

鈥淪askTel鈥檚 strategic priorities place their customers at the centre of everything they do with a goal of making it easier for customers to do business with the company and for employees to serve customers,鈥 Minister Responsible for SaskTel Don Morgan said. 鈥淭hroughout the year, SaskTel invested approximately $263 million in capital improvements across the province to continue to prepare its networks for future demand and to deliver a quality user experience for the people of Saskatchewan,鈥 the minister added.

听鈥淎s we enter a new decade, we find ourselves on the cusp of monumental change in our industry as digital, web-based and emerging technologies continue to reshape the way we operate and interact with our customers, vendors and other partners,鈥 SaskTel President and CEO Doug Burnett stated.听

鈥淲e recognize that we must evolve our business to support customers鈥 shifting expectations and to continue providing exceptional service in a digital world. Digital transformation continues to be the main driver reshaping customer and employee experiences across our business,鈥 Burnett continued.听

SaskTel said their financial actions were focussed on creating shareholder value, generating revenue and earnings and leveraging their capital investments.

According to SaskTel, those measures provided insight into the Crown corporation鈥檚 current financial performance and overall progress and enhanced the corporation鈥檚 long-term financial stability.听

Despite the glowing report released this July, there had been questions of SaskTel鈥檚 future privatization which arose last year, when the Saskatchewan NDP said they鈥檇 discovered an underhanded Crown selloff committee created by the governing Saskatchewan Party.

The opposition said听a report from the Information and Privacy Commissioner indicated there were plans to sell off SaskTel dating to 2017.

听鈥淭hey had actual proposals going back and forth between two potential buyers of this Crown corporation鈥 NDP Finance Critic Trent Wotherspoon said in August 2019.听

鈥淚f you can imagine, this government听actually provided secret, commercially sensitive information to competitors to these companies that were looking to buy the Crown corporation.鈥
