New UFA Co-operative expands petroleum business into Weyburn

The Weyburn UFA site will be located on Highway 39 northwest and Cossette Lane, and is expected to be completed construction in November.

WEYBURN - United Farmers of Alberta (UFA) Co-operative announced a major investment to expanding its petroleum business into key markets in Saskatchewan, with new locations in Weyburn and Yorkton.

The Weyburn UFA site will be located on Highway 39 northwest and Cossette Lane, and is expected to be completed construction in November.

“We are incredibly excited to officially announce our expansion into Saskatchewan. We are excited to embrace all the things that make Saskatchewan special,” said Don Smith, vice president of Petroleum and Innovation for UFA. “We know that not only is Saskatchewan the land of the living skies, but it is also the land of opportunity.”

“UFA is a dynamic co-operative, and Saskatchewan is a dynamic province.”

He added that Weyburn was an obvious choice for UFA. “The city has a solid economic and community foundation in which new opportunities are built. We were not only attracted by the many agricultural services that the area offers, but behind those service offerings stands a robust and ambitious workforce.”

“Our cooperative and the province of Saskatchewan are built on hard work, loyalty and the notion that we can accomplish more together,” said Smith.

Mayor Marcel Roy and Reeve Norm McFadden attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the UFA Weyburn site on May 12.

“Saskatchewan is ready for a boom. Premier (Scott Moe) has talked about how we will have a boom that we have never seen before. We have potash, oil, lithium, helium and canola crushing plants. A lot of these projects are situated right along Highway 39, where they will see the traffic. These are very exciting times, and we are moving forward here in Weyburn,” said Mayor Roy.

“Our Highway 39 corridor is going to start to get very busy in this next few years, so this is a great place for this site to be built. Competition is never a bad thing, as it will give people another choice,” said Reeve McFadden.

UFA is also in the process of developing several additional locations as part of a multi-year strategy to expand throughout the province.

“The expansion of our petroleum network is part of a strategy to grow from an Alberta-focused business into a western Canadian service leader. We are excited for what this expansion means for everyone,” added Smith.
