WEYBURN - Community Futures (CF) Sunrise, communities and tourism stakeholders from throughout the region will meet virtually Feb. 16 for the SE Sask. Tourism Network meeting.
At this meeting, communities, tourism associations and economic development stakeholders will come together to discuss the visitor economy and learn how CF Sunrise plans to support its development moving forward.
“Tourism has the ability to play an important role in our regional economy,” said Christina Birch, regional economic development co-ordinator for CF Sunrise. “We know that communities who are able to attract visitors experience an increase in wealth driven by external dollars. Businesses have the opportunity to gain new customers and communities have the opportunity to showcase their community as a place to visit, live or start a new business.”
The meeting may be a fit for those who are a member of a local tourism group, belong to an economic development committee or are a councillor who is trying to grow and diversify the community. If you are responsible for marketing your community as a destination or interested in helping to grow the visitor economy here in the southeast, you are encouraged to attend.
“We have a variety of stakeholders who have registered for this meeting, all of which are enthusiastic about establishing southeast Saskatchewan as a place to visit this summer,” said Birch. “We work hard at providing a platform for regional collaboration and this network is an example of what can be created when communities come together for the betterment of our region.”
Because this is a virtual event, people can RSVP up until the day of the event. Just reach out to the office and they will send the meeting link.
CF Sunrise has a number of programs that support the development of the visitor economy in southeast Saskatchewan. Their destination business program trains businesses to attract consumers or clients from outside of their market area, upwards of 500 kilometers away. To date, more than 50 participants have taken part in their destination business program with another session starting mid-March.
