ASSINIBOIA - Flowers and mental health. How are they connected? Erin Eberle, owner of Mom’s Florist, saw a need in Assiniboia and she sent Good Neighbour Day blossoming into a new direction.
The proceeds from Good Neighbour Day will go to the Assiniboia Mental Health and Wellness Team. “Mental Health is something that really resonates with people in this area,” said Erin. “We expect to sell between 400-450 dozen roses again on Wednesday, September 21.”
Customers can call Mom’s Florist at 306-642-4777 or drop by the store to pre-order their roses for $25 a bouquet. Drop-ins on September 21 are also welcome.
Surrounding towns also order roses. “Gail Foley of Coronach has been an avid seller for several years and Bengough Drugs also sells them there. I am open to other towns in the area ordering roses as well.”
“Flowers always brighten your day. It’s a gift of friendship and it makes people smile to know that you think highly of them.”
Another way Good Neighbour Day puts a smile on people’s faces is through the speakers the mental health team brings in.
“Our Assiniboia Mental Health and Wellness Team brought in comedians Jody Peters and John Kozman last year on April 21. It was just for people to get out and have a good laugh, and to create an atmosphere where we feel free to talk about our own mental health journey.”
The Mental Health and Wellness team is sponsoring a ‘Tea and Sympathy’ at the Shurniak Art Gallery in Assiniboia on Friday, Sept. 16 at 1:30 p.m. Sign up by calling 306-642-5292.
“Lots of people come in and say ‘thank you’ for raising this money to support mental health because it all stays local through events in town. We want to get the message out to slow down and pay attention to your own mental health.”
“We have Mental Health Starter Kits available in the store. Sometimes we don’t know where to turn when we need help, and these starter kits point you to resources, such as an app on your phone, that can help you or a loved one find help when they need it. It’s just so important to have that kind of information.” Erin encourages people to stop by Mom’s Florist and pick one up. “Or if they prefer, they can private message me to get one, or the Mental Health and Wellness team on Facebook.”
Erin reminds everyone to bring cash or cheque only when they stop in on September 21 to pick up their roses. “That means even more proceeds go toward our mental health team here in Assiniboia, and that puts a smile on our faces too.”
