JuneWarren-Nickle鈥檚 Energy Group (JWN) and Glacier Media, its parent company, are working together in the relief effort for the embattled citizens of Fort McMurray. Both companies are organizing several fundraising initiatives, the proceeds of which will support the displaced people of Fort McMurray and the aid organizations assisting them.

JWN and Glacier Media are donating $50,000 to the Red Cross, and its campaign to assist Fort McMurray. This contribution is also being done on behalf of Glacier鈥檚 other businesses in the mining, agricultural, environmental services and community media sectors. Those companies which are part of Glacier are also contributing in their own ways, through assorted awareness and fundraising efforts.

In addition to its donation, Glacier Media has also created an integrated crowdfunding campaign, with all the proceeds to go to the Red Cross鈥 efforts. The campaign can be found at www.fundaid.ca/fortmac.

Glacier Media vice-president of content and audience development Tim Shoults, in a media release, stated that Glacier Media is deeply involved in communities across Western Canada, through community newspapers, and business and information services, adding, 鈥淭his way, we can rally out readers, our customers and our communities to get behind the Red Cross efforts in a way that allows contributions of all sizes.鈥

Bill Whitelaw, president of JWN and executive vice-president of Glacier Media, stated in the release, that supporting Fort McMurray is important, because it gives Canadians, 鈥渇rom coast to coast鈥 sense, beyond the headlines, of how important Fort McMurray is to the overall Canadian economy.鈥

He added, 鈥淚t鈥檚 not an Alberta dynamic. All Canadians need to step up and help get this engine running on all cylinders again, putting people, companies and their welfare front and centre.鈥

Whitelaw noted Canada鈥檚 oilsands sector is an important part of the energy practice of JWN, and as such, the company is very familiar with the companies and communities in the oilsands region.聽

鈥淟ike all other organizations who have stepped up with support, we want these folks to know we have their back,鈥 Whitelaw said. 鈥淚n one way or another, all of our businesses touch Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo. Besting the fire was just the first among many challenges still to come.鈥
