ASSINIBOIA - Â鶹´«Ã½AV Saskatchewan Ready announced it would award more than $270,000 toward new projects to support community priorities, help local businesses thrive, and showcase opportunities in the south central part of the province.

Funding to these organizations will help mitigate the federally mandated coal transition by maintaining important municipal property tax bases to fund local services and creating jobs to maintain a customer base for local businesses.

Projects included:

  • Goose Creek Industries, RM of Poplar Valley, $100,000 for equipment to help an organic farming company to implement manufacturing to expand its business.

  • Rockglen Childcare Services, Town of Rockglen, $41,258 to maintain an important service needed in the region, which helps attract families to the area.

  • Â鶹´«Ã½AVern Comfort Spray Foam, Hamlet of Fife Lake, $23,000 for equipment to offer other services to expand market opportunities.

  • Marv’s Tire, Town of Coronach, $31,000 for equipment for expansion into other sectors and markets.

  • Willow Bunch Greenhouse, Town of Willow Bunch, $39,000 for a new greenhouse and expansion of product offerings in a new location to attract more customers.

  • Jean Louis Legare Regional Park, RM of Willow Bunch, $20,000 for a new wheelchair campground service centre to help make the park more accessible.

  • Rockin’ Beach Campground and Park, RM of Popular Valley, $20,000 for new washroom facilities to improve the park experience for visitors.

“Attracting new investment and supporting local business will contribute greatly to the survival of our regional communities and local economies. We are grateful the Government of Saskatchewan has provided funding to help us mitigate the negative economic effects of coal transition and their support has been indispensable,” said Sharon Adam, chair of Â鶹´«Ã½AV Saskatchewan Ready.

“These projects illustrate the perseverance, entrepreneurship and community collaboration of south-central Saskatchewan people,” said Saskatchewan’s Government Relations Minister Don McMorris. “Our government is proud to play a role by investing $2 million towards the projects lead by Â鶹´«Ã½AV Saskatchewan Ready to keep our great province strong.”

“We are very fortunate for the community support through the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Saskatchewan Ready project. We can access the technology needed to keep jobs right here, in our small community. Without the support, these jobs would have been outsourced to larger centres. We are excited to be a part of this endeavour and keeping our community an amazing place to call home,” said Tyler Remoué, President of Goose Creek Industries.

“Many young families that call Rockglen and surrounding area home, want to continue raising their families here. The lack of daycare services has proven to be a challenge for families simply because they don’t have full-time childcare arrangements. Having adequate daycare services provides an important economic facet for allowing parents to maintain employment but to also attract new residents with families,” said Chapin Sleightholm, president of Rockglen Daycare Services.

“Rockglen is a wonderful place to live and work; we’re thankful for all of the support we’ve received from the community, including Â鶹´«Ã½AV Saskatchewan Ready, to make our town that much more desirable and self-sufficient with the addition of a childcare centre.”

This is the third and final round of projects approved by Â鶹´«Ã½AV Saskatchewan Ready.

Â鶹´«Ã½AV Saskatchewan Ready is an economic alliance of nine municipalities in the south-central region of the province working to mitigate the negative economic effects of federally-mandated coal transition. It includes the towns of Bengough, Coronach, Rockglen and Willow Bunch, along with the rural municipalities of Bengough, Happy Valley, Hart Butte, Poplar Valley, and Willow Bunch.
