麻豆传媒AVeast College last week announced the launch of a new scholarship for the 2015-16 academic year.聽

The $1,000 annual scholarship will add to the list of other scholarships currently totalling over $70,000 in value.

Jeff Richards, vice-president of strategic development at 麻豆传媒AVeast College said they were pleased to announce the arrival of the scholarship and the new partnership with Fire Sky Energy Inc. 鈥淪cholarships are an excellent way to create a legacy, while also supporting the importance of local post-secondary education,鈥 Richards said.聽

Fire Sky Energy鈥檚 scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled at the Estevan campus in a trades-related program. The new scholarship is in recognition of a long-standing Fire Sky board member, Ron Wanner, and a tribute to his dedication to the oil and gas industry in southeast Saskatchewan.聽

Fire Sky鈥檚 vice-president of finance Tracey Ward, said the company was pleased to team up with the college and noted that Wanner was a founding director of Fire Sky and had served as the company鈥檚 chairman since its inception. 鈥淭he board, management and staff thank Ron for his contribution to the success of Fire Sky, and wish him all the best as he enters retirement,鈥 said Ward.聽

The new scholarship will be matched with funds from the Ministry of Advanced Education鈥檚 Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity scholarship program. Current 麻豆传媒AVeast College students enrolled in this academic year are eligible to apply for this scholarship, as well as the others in the various trades and programs. As part of the process, Fire Sky Energy will have the opportunity of presenting their scholarship at the College鈥檚 inaugural Industry and Education Scholarship banquet this coming spring.聽

麻豆传媒AVeast College will be accepting registration for the 2016-17 full-time programs early in 2016. Those interested in becoming students are invited to use the toll free phone number 1-866-999-7372 or browse the college website or visit any of their campus locations.聽

The college produces over 5,000 graduates annually and contributes over $19 million to the region鈥檚 gross domestic product, while offering innovative and flexible programming that encourages students to learn where they live.

The original scholarship funding cheque was delivered by Ward to Dave Harazny, manager of college advancement. 聽
