Assiniboia has some new choices for eating out with the opening of the Cruz In restaurant in late March and the unveiling of Fresh Start鈥檚 new menu.
Cruz In is the latest eating spot in Assiniboia. It sports a 1950s-60s style design and menu. The pristine interior reveals red vinyl seating with black and white checkerboard motifs that transport patrons back in time. Many small decorating touches add to that ambiance like the wall decorations and menu with vinyl records and the title of the famous Beatles tune 鈥淭wist and Shout鈥�.
The menu offers all the favourites of the cruisin鈥� era 鈥� burgers and fries, banana splits, sundaes and milkshakes. But the menu also offers some modern items like the chicken Caesar wrap, toasted veggie sandwich and a taco wrap. Menu items also include a variety of dietary options 鈥� vegetable, fish and chips, chicken, bacon, and beef. The portions are large and served hot.
There are a number of side dishes such as onion rings, fries, poutine, ribs and salads. Cruz In features a number of filling desserts and a variety of ice cream treats, such as ice cream cones, banana splits, sundaes, as well as five different kinds of homemade pies. All items are served with a choice of fountain drinks, tea and coffee. The men also includes a seniors and childrens section. The restaurant offers eat-in or take-out options. Cruz In is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and is closed Sunday.
Fresh Start, a caf茅 located in the Shurniak Gallery, unveiled its new menu last month. The new offerings include flatbread pizza, wraps, soups of day, homemade chili, sandwiches, paninis, and salads. There are several kinds of chicken wraps like chicken pecan, chicken bacon, buffalo chicken, and chicken Caesar. The sandwiches are made on a choice of breads and some with a side of house salad or soup. There are six kinds of paninis including a chicken souvlaki. They make a fresh soup daily served with a cheese biscuit. The menu caters to a wide selection of tastes, including Asian noodle bowls and chicken rice wraps. Vegetable lovers will appreciate the wide selection of lettuce wraps, falafel wrap as well as soups and salads. Fresh Start includes an extensive selection of beverages with six different types of coffee, sodas, teas, and juices. They also have 17 flavours of bubble tea, five different sour flavours, four sugar free flavours, 11 cappuccino and latte flavours, and 24 flavours of Italian soda flavours. Fresh Start is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.
