Assiniboia Town Council acknowledge Scotties planning committee

Town of Assiniboia acknowledged the Scotties planning committee for all the work and time that was done to bring the Scotties to the Assiniboia Curling Rink facility.

ASSINIBOIA - The Town of Assiniboia council gathered for a meeting on January 25. The meeting was attended by Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; councillors: Peter Kordus, Graham Harvey, Patrick Grondin, Kent Fettes, Robert Ellert and Paul Tendler; CAO Clint Mauthe; director of corporate services Kerri Martin; and director of operations Nic Zuck.

Public acknowledgements were given to Assiniboia Times for coverage of the meeting and to the planning committee of the Viterra Scotties Provincial Tournament and to Sgt. Siliker from RCMP.

Agenda accepted and adopted as presented by Grondin/Fettes

Minutes of last meeting held on January 11 were accepted and adopted as read by Ellert/Fettes,

Minutes of the Assiniboia and District Historical Society, minutes of Prince of Wales board meeting held December 9 and minutes of finance and admin committee held October 18 accepted and adopted as read by Harvey/Grondin.

The RCMP report given by Sgt/ Siliker was accepted and adopted.

Cheri Blackwell, Rob Greensides, and Mike Broda, the representatives of the planning committee for the Viterra Scotties Ladies provincial curling tournament were given appreciation by Council and the Town of Assiniboia for all the work and time that was done to bring the Scotties to the Assiniboia Curling Rink facility.

The committee said it was a positive and fun event with a very successful outcome for curlers and the Town alike. Mayor Sharon Schauenberg presented a cheque to the Assiniboia Curling Club on behalf of the Town to support the event.

Correspondence was received from Assiniboia and District Music Festival scholarship letter, Chamber Chat for January 2022, ATAP infrastructure rate change letter, and SUMA notice of meeting for 2022.  These letters were accepted and adopted in minutes by Fettes/Grondin.

Reports given by CAO

CAO Mauthe continues to work with tenders for 2022 asphalt work.

A new cat for the landfill will arrive next week.

All pretax notices were out 10 days earlier than last fiscal year which has been well accepted and appreciated by townsfolk.  Mauthe answered questions raised on the financial report and the list of paid accounts.  The CAO report accepted and adopted as given by Kordus/Fettes.

New business and request for decision:

Town Council decided to only hold one meeting in February, on Tuesday, February 22. A decision was made to close a savings account for finance and administration.

Town councillors who were appointed to the various committees will stay as they stand for another year. There are two exceptions, as Fettes will join the recreation committee, and Tendler will move to the IFOS committee.

A decision was made that clean-up of untidy properties will be added to assessment for taxes.

Town Council approved to change the landfill topping fees, under Bylaw 01/22. Effective Monday, April 4, the landfill rates will be .20 kg or $200 a tone for non-Assiniboia residents. Rates for Assiniboia residents will remain the same. This received first to fourth reading. This was accepted and adopted. 

Bylaw 02/22, to appoint Western Municipal Consulting, was given first to fourth reading. It was carried unanimously.

An investment request was received by ACIA. Council directed administration that upon maturity of the rink investment, the full amount will be deposited into savings.

Mayor Sharon Schauenberg attended the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Central Municipal Association meeting, Saskatchewan Health Authority meeting with Councillor Grondin and CAO Mauthe, Shurniak annual general meeting via zoom, a meeting with Sgt. Silliker, and met with Principal of High School about Treaty 4 Flag.

Councillor Robert Ellert attended Planning and Development meeting. Councillor Graham Harvey attended Planning and Development meeting, and Library Board meeting.

Councillor Peter Kordus attended Â鶹´«Ã½AV Central Municipal Association meeting. Adjournment accepted by Grondin/Fettes.
