A self-proclaimed tornado hunter and photographer, Greg Johnson, will be making a public presentation about violent summer storms, including showing some of his photos, in an appearance at the T.C. Douglas Centre on Saturday, Mar. 26, starting at 7 p.m.
His contention is that severe weather is on the rise in Saskatchewan, and that residents need more information about storm safety in order to protect lives and stay safe.
The devastation and damage caused by tornados was brought home recently with the one that hit Raymore, Sask., area last July.
Johnson has witnessed and photographed many tornados, and has seen their effects on communities.
"We will see more tornados in Saskatchewan this year. I have always been passionate about severe weather, and when you see what a tornado can do to a home or an entire tow, it really is devastating. People need to know more about to do when severe weather strikes," said Johnson.
He noted that a Saskatchewan man was killed by a tornado about an hour's drive south of Weyburn in August of 2010.
"With severe weather season just round the corner, now is the time to get the knowledge you need to stay safe," said Johnson.
He has been chasing storms through Canada and the U.S. for the past 10 years, and has his own web site at tornadohunter.com.
