Weyburn and area residents are encouraged to celebrate life and fight cancer during the annual Relay for Life fundraiser.

The 13th annual Weyburn Relay for Life will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15. It runs for 12 hours, starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, and going until 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Once again, Relay for Life will be held at Crescent Point Place. There will be activities inside the facility, and outside during the 12 hours of the event.

"Relay for Life is one of the biggest fundraisers of the Canadian Cancer Society," said Caroline Gillies, chair of the Relay for Life committee. "This event is a movement across the globe, that encourages communities and individuals to get involved and take action in the fight against all forms of cancer."

Cancer survivors, Relay for Life teams, or volunteers can start registering for the event by contacting the Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society at their Weyburn office.

Relay for Life is an inspirational, non-competitive, 12-hour overnight fundraising event, organized by the Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society. Relay has a festival-like atmosphere that anyone can enjoy regardless of age or fitness level.

"Whether it is to come forward as a survivor and celebrate your victory over a disease that has taken so much. Or as a participant in a team, joining together for an evening of fun for an amazing cause," said Gillies.

"You can also take time to remember loved ones currently fighting, or who have lost their battle with cancer, at the luminary ceremony."

"We all have a reason to attend the Relay for Life, and share in a truly remarkable experience," said Gillies. "Every year, I take in the event and I am still inspired by the many stories and amazing people I meet and share their stories with me."

"I encourage all of you to come out and enjoy the evening, create a team or volunteer, but whatever you do - don't miss out on this opportunity to take action and be a part of the Relay for Life," said Gillies.

This is the second year that Caroline Gillies has served as chairperson for the Relay for Life. "The biggest part of Relay for Life is the feeling of making a huge difference - which we are in the fight against all forms of cancer."

"You can see it from the very first survivor lap, many with their families and caregivers. You know that people in our community are affected by cancer from the young to our seniors. Cancer doesn't care, it targets all of us."

Funds raised during Relay for Life goes to help those affected by cancer.

The Canadian Cancer Society is a community-based organization aimed at the eradication of cancer and enhancement of the quality of life for people living with the condition.
