The Pop Up Art Show and Sale took place in Assiniboia over two days on February 25-26. It was organized by the Assiniboia and District Arts Council and was open to any artists who wished to show or sell their works.
On display were works by artists from Assiniboia as well as from Lafleche, Mossbank, Rockglen, Willow Bunch and Gravelbourg. The show offered an excellent variety of artistic media including oil, watercolour, drawing, fiber art, alcohol on ink tiles and multimedia. Most fascinating for visitors to the show was the creativity in subject matter and the medium used.
There were many unique media being featured in the art show and sale. Darlene Kowalchuk showed a collection of alcohol ink on tiles, pictured below, with brilliant colours. The fabric art by Rita St. Amant was one of the most fascinating forms. Using cotton from the 1920s as her canvas, she transformed wool with needle and sewing machine into riveting artwork.
The show was well worth seeing if only to appreciate the artistic talents in Assiniboia and surrounding communities. The event also included a wine and cheese hour on February 25.
