WEYBURN – The new 2022-23 season of performances for the Weyburn Concert Series has been released, with memberships and advance tickets available.
The season lineup will include a tribute to Simon and Garfunkel, the Barra MacNeils, a tribute to American rock legends, and the Poltava Ensemble of Ukrainian dancers.
The season will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 28 with Homeward Bound: The Music of Simon and Garfunkel, as performed by the Chamberlain Brothers.
They will take listeners through the duo’s music of the 1960s and 70s, bringing their harmonies, poetry and songs from Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.
Tenor singer Ken Lavigne will perform a show on Tuesday, Oct. 18, featuring the music of “Three Knights with a Tenor”.
His show includes the music of Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, as he combines his classical tenor voice with contemporary songs from these three masters.
The Barra MacNeils will bring their harmonies and music with “An East Coast Christmas” on Monday, Nov. 28, with traditional MacNeil family favourites from Christmas ceilidhs, carols and festive songs of the holiday season.
In the new year, performer Dan Hare performs the music of American rock legends Bob Seger and John Fogerty from the 1970s and 80s. His concert will be presented on Thursday, March 16, 2023.
The MOTUS O Dance Theatre will present the “Prisoner of Tehran” on Wednesday, April 5. This will be a unique performance piece that combines theatre, video and storytelling from Iranian-born writer and speaker Marina Nemat, who wrote the book, “Prisoner of Tehran” based on her experiences from the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
She immigrated to Canada in 1991 and published her book in 28 countries, with this performance touring through Canada to over 10,000 high school school students. There will be a question-and-answer period after the performance.
The final performance for the season will the Poltava Ensemble of Song, Music and Dance on Friday, April 28, featuring the 50-member Ukrainian group based in Regina.
The Poltava Orchestra, under the direction of Vlad Tsymbal, will bring the rich heritage of Ukrainian music, and the Poltava Dancers, directed by Lisa Wanner, brings the male and female adult ensemble performing Ukrainian dance, ballet and folk dance.
Season tickets for the 2022-23 season will be $135 for adults and $50 for children and students, and after June 15, 2022, the prices will be $150 for adults and $65 for children and students.
For advance tickets for individual shows, the price is $40 for adults and $20 for children and students, and at the door will $45 for adults and $25 for children and students. All concerts will be at the Cugnet Centre, and all start at 7:30 p.m. on the dates noted.
