Although they live in the same house, this artsy couple use very different mediums.
Jaynie and Max Himsl are Art Farm board members, called articulturists, and will be displaying their very different art work at Art Farm on June 14. Jaynie has several fibre art pieces and Max will be showing off his wood and metal art.
Jaynie learned how to sew by watching her mother and grandmother use a sewing machine, a chore which opened the door to Jaynie's creativity.
"Several years ago Martha Cole had an exhibit with fibre art. I decided to try it," she said.
After enrolling in several local classes and attending different conventions, Jaynie said she learned a few techniques.
This year, Jaynie has a piece of her artwork juried into a quilt show in Ontario.
"That is so exciting," she said.
As Jaynie sits inside the house sewing cords together, Max is out in the garage welding bits of steel.
"I took an interest in metal about 20 or so years ago," said Max. "I started with wind chimes and gongs but moved to a more visual metal and started with wood about five years ago."
Using chop saws, welders, dremel tools and carving chisels, Max creates visual art from branches he finds in the back yard and pieces of scrap metal from pipes to car ornaments.
Recently added to his collection of tools is a plasma cutter.
"I haven't used it yet," he said, rubbing his hands together. "But, I'm excited to."
The couple will take a truck load of their works to Art Farm which will be held Saturday, June 14 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the van der Breggen acreage five minutes from Weyburn.
Art Farm a gathering of artists exhibiting and selling their work. This is a family event that will include live music, food, magicians, improv as well as art in many mediums. Admission is $2, children 12 and under are admitted at no charge.
"Art Farm an opportunity to expose the local talented artist, while giving the public an opportunity to view and purchase original works of art in a comfortable atmosphere. We have a diverse group of artist friends, both accomplished and emerging. Painters, potters, photographers, musicians, performing artists come together to give a market type experience in a casual country atmosphere," said Heather van der Breggen.
