Saskatchewan artists or artisans, not supported solely by the sale of their work, are invited to enter their works in the Weyburn and area local art adjudication.
The Weyburn Arts Council will be holding their annual Local Adjudication of Arts and Crafts on Friday, April 29. Professional artist and adjudicator, Ward Schell, has been hired to meet with artists/artisans and provide them with a critique of their works.
Artists from Weyburn and surrounding areas are encouraged to submit their works of art, which will also be placed on show from March 16 to April 29 at the Signal Hill Arts Centre Gallery, as part of the adjudication process.
Artists chosen at the local level will be invited to submit an exhibition proposal to the OSAC jury in June. This jury will choose a number of artists/artisans to have their work tour the province with OSAC's "Arts on the Move" program.
Deadline for entry is Friday, March 11 to allow time for the newly extended six-week exhibition.
Two hands-on workshops are being offered to enrich adjudication month:
"A Word Press Website for Visual Artists: Learn to build your own website using blog software," a CARFAC workshop, will be offered on Sunday, April 10 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Weyburn Public Library. Instructor Sharon Hamilton will walk participants through the steps for using Word Press blogging software to create a basic website online. Some computers are supplied; those with laptops are encouraged to bring them. Some emailing and/or internet experience is necessary. Pre-Registration for this free workshop is required.
"Drawing outside the Box," taught by Ward Schell, is a full-day workshop on Saturday, April 30, where participants will combine specific "observational drawing" techniques. Participants will explore the fundamentals of drawing line, form and tone to achieve great results in drawings.
