The Weyburn and District United Way will kick-off their 2014 Communithon on Friday, Sept. 6 with a barbecue at the Memorial Park on Third Street (beside the City Hall).

The barbecue will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with free hot dogs and drinks sold during the event. Donations to the United Way will be accepted during the kick-off barbecue.

Information on this year's Communithon will be detailed during the kick-off. It will also be an opportunity for residents to meet the Communithon Superheroes.

These youth will be helping to promote the United Way and the Communithon to local businesses and schools.

In case of inclement weather, the barbecue will be hosted inside the Weyburn Royal Canadian Legion.

This year's Communithon is set for 33 hours, starting at 8 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 24 and running until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25. For the first time ever, the Communithon will be hosted in the new Cugnet Centre at the Weyburn Comp School.

The Communithon will be aired live on Access 7 throughout the 33 hours. Special events throughout the two days will be announced at a later time.

Entertainers who want to perform during the 33-hour event are encouraged to fill out entertainment forms, which are available online at www.weyburnunitedway.com.

There are also submission forms if volunteers are interested in donating their time during the Communithon. There are a number of committees that could use extra workers.

Businesses who want to host a special event, request a visit by the Communithon Superheroes, or download payroll deduction forms can find information on the United Way website.

This year's member agencies for the Weyburn and District United Way include: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Weyburn; Canada Mental Health Association; Canadian National Institute for the Blind; Canadian Paraplegic Association; Canadian Red Cross; Color My World Child Care; Envision Counselling and Support Centre; Saskatchewan Abilities Council; Â鶹´«Ã½AVeast Advocates for Employment (WASES); Weyburn Care-A-Van Society and the Weyburn Special Care Home Auxiliary.
