WEYBURN – A cast of 60 will take to the stage at the Cugnet Centre starting tonight, May 24, with performances to run through this week to May 27, at 7 p.m. each night, plus a matinee performance on Sunday, May 29 at 2 p.m.
This is the final musical to be directed by Tanya Cameron, who will be retiring from teaching music at the Weyburn Comprehensive School at the end of the school year.
“I chose Grease as the WCS Senior Musical 2022 for many reason, but mostly because our senior students haven’t been able to do a live musical for two years now due to COVID. I felt they needed to do a musical that was super fun with lots of energy,” she said in her message for the musical program.
The cast is headed up by Liam Evans as Danny Zuko, with Lindsay VanDeWeyer as Sandy Dumbrowski, or Sandy D as she is called by her fellow students.
Owen Burdan plays Kenickie, Donald Alexander is Sonny Latierri, Jonas Burdan is Doody and Marcus Isaak is Roger, all part of the gang that hangs out with Danny.
The girls are played by Kacy Byrns (Betty Rizzo), Braelee Wade (Frenchie), Kailyn McFadden (Marty), Natalie Butz (Jan) and Teagan Dubiel (Patty Simcox).
Other characters include Darius Jones playing Vince Fontaine; Zoe Tichkowsky as Cha-Cha Digregorio, Dominic Mejia as Eugene Florczyk, Halena Paquet as Miss Lynch, Dali Mlilo as Johnny Casino, and the Rockettes include Mojet Adediji, Nia Cleasby, Shantal Copely and Mitzi Recto.
In addition to the cast and chorus, several help out behind the scenes and in the pit orchestra, which accompanies the musical live.
