(L-R) St. Dominic School Grade 4 students Brogan Regier, Dawson Gulash, Braeya Wotherspoon, Matthew O'Neill, Rylan Hoffman and Paris Thiel held up the Canadian flag that their substitute teacher Gwenda Klein got from Parliament Hill during the school's Canada Day celebration held recently.

Local substitute teacher Gwenda Klein had nearly forgotten about her application to receive one of the flags flown on Parliament Hill when she received a Canadian flag in the mail last September.

Klein put her name on the waiting list nearly 10 years ago in Ottawa.

"I was lucky to get it after 10 years," said Klein.

According to Klein, many people are now waiting up to 20 years to get one of the flags that are flown for one day from the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill. Klein's flag was flown on August 24, 2009, according to the letter that was sent from Ottawa with the 15-foot by eight-foot flag.

Klein brought the flag to St. Dominic School to show the students during their Canada Day celebrations, recently.

Klein said she has yet to decide what to do with the large piece of Canadian identity.
