The Weyburn Comp has set the dates for the spring musical drama; they will be staging the Tony-award winning musical "Urinetown" on May 5, 8, 9, and 11 at the Cafetorium.
This comedy satirizes the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement and municipal politics.
The show also parodies musicals like "The Cradle Will Rock" and "Les Miserables". The lead characters of Bobby Strong and Hope Cladwell were included on New York Theatre monthly's list of "The 100 Greatest Roles in Musical Theatre".
Urinetown first opened on Broadway in 2001, and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, winning three. It tells the story of assistant urinal custodian Bobby Strong living during a 20-year drought which has caused a terrible water shortage, making privae toilets unthinkable. People have to ouse public toilets controlled by a megacorporation called "Urine Good Company" and they have to pay to use the amenities.
People who don't pay are sent to a penal colony called "Urintetown", never to return.
There is forbidden love, conflict, rebellion, intrigue, comedy and death. Once one gets past the title, patrons will be entertained with great songs, big production numbers, and an interesting plot.
The tickets will go on sale to the public in early April.
This weekend, the senior girls basketball team is at Notre Dame, and the senior boys are in Regina. This will conclude the regular season, and both teams are off to conference playoffs the following weekend.
