Canada 150 was celebrated in song by the Assiniboia Community Choir at its Spring Concert at the Alliance Church in Assiniboia on May 7. This concert was one of the Canada 150 events happening in the community.
The 27-member group, directed by Carol Marit, dedicated its program to showcasing a variety of Canadian music from Canadian anthems and folk songs to Canadian sacred songs and hits by Canadian artists. For the audience packing the room, the concert brought out a surge of pride at being Canadian.
The concert opened with two Canadian anthems: 鈥淐anada鈥, a centennial song that was the theme song of the Canadian pavilion at Expo 1967, and 鈥淥 Canada鈥 the national anthem. The next set featured four home grown Canadian folk songs. 鈥淔arewell to Nova Scotia鈥 was a familiar tune for any Canadian, accompanied by Vic Engstrom on drums and Leon Banadyga on guitar.
