2014 Wheat Festival celebrates W.O. Mitchell's birth

The 2014 Wheat Festival will celebrate the birth of acclaimed writer W.O Mitchell 100 years ago in Weyburn with the Crocus 80 Theatre presentation of "Jake and the Kid - Prairie Seasons'. The Crocus 80 Theatre presentation will take place at the T.C.

The 2014 Wheat Festival will celebrate the birth of acclaimed writer W.O Mitchell 100 years ago in Weyburn with the Crocus 80 Theatre presentation of "Jake and the Kid - Prairie Seasons'.

The Crocus 80 Theatre presentation will take place at the T.C. Douglas Centre at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, Friday, August 8 and Saturday, August 9 with a matinee performance at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 10.

Kicking off the Wheat Festival on Thursday, August 7 is the A&W Cruising the Dub at 7 p.m.

On Friday and Saturday, the Minard's People Mover will depart every hour from City Centre Mall from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. taking a tour of the Farmer's Market at City Centre Mall, the Soo Line Museum, T.C. Douglas Centre, Signal Hill Arts Centre and Heritage Village.

There will be a horticulture show and tea room serving strawberry shortcake at Knox Hall as well as a homemade bread and Saskatoon or rhubarb pie social at the Soo Line Historical Museum. The Signal Hill Arts Centre will have Weyburn an artists' workshop display.

Heritage Village Days begin with entertainment on the stage from noon until 5 p.m.

W.O. Mitchell's son Orm and his wife, Barb Mitchell will be reading selections from the works of W.O Mitchell at the T.C. Douglas Centre.

Jubilee Park will be the site of the Movie in the Park which begins at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, August 8.

On Saturday, August 9, the Weyburn Roller Derby Strait Jackettes will be playing at the Curling Rink beginning at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, August 10, the Wheat Festival Worship and Praise Service presented by the Weyburn Ministrerial Assciation will be held at the Grace United Church at 3 p.m.
