ESTEVAN — As the blizzard continues Saturday, the City of Estevan is asking the public to avoid travelling within the city.
City crews are currently out monitoring the snowfall and blizzard conditions.
“At this time, it is advised to stay home due to lack of visibility and large drifts making many roads plugged," the city said in press release, issued at 7:40 a.m.
“Crews will remain on patrol monitoring conditions and will commence snow removal where it is needed and possible as this storm continues.”
The weather is causing troubles with events in the region. Fresh Air Fitness announced Friday that it was postponing its Energy Dash and Splash polar bear swim and run at Boundary Dam, which was slated for Saturday morning, due to the weather.
The Estevan Arts Council also announced that the Poltava Ensemble performance on Sunday, March 12, has been postponed and asked the public to stay tuned for an updated performance date.
The city's landfill is closed Saturday due to the weather.
The Estevan Bruins' game at the Weyburn Red Wings for tonight has been postponed. The Estevan Apex U18 AA Bruins' playoff game tonight at Swift Current and tomorrow at home against Swift Current have also been postponed.
Numerous businesses in the city are also closed today.
The Mercury will have updates on the storm and its impacts on the community as they become available.
