WEYBURN - A Ukrainian lunch and supper, featuring homemade Ukrainian food, will be held on Sunday, May 22 at the Weyburn Wheatland Seniors Centre to raise funds to help Ukraine’s war effort in fighting Russian forces.
Local Ukrainian residents are helping to organize the fundraiser, which will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The cost for the meal is $20 a plate, and can be picked up as a take-out meal, or for dining in at the centre. The meal includes perogies, cabbage rolls, Ukrainian sausage, borscht and more.
All funds will go directly to Ukraine to help out displaced residents in the war-ravaged country, suffering under the invasion by Russia that began in February.
The funds will be sent to the Come Back Alive organization in Ukraine. Launched in 2014, Come Back Alive became the biggest organization providing support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the group’s website, the “fund supports the Armed Forces of Ukraine through financing purely defence initiatives. Since 2014 we have provided around 1000 thermal imagers and over 250 UAVs. In addition to the material support, we increased technological capabilities of the Army through providing 1,500 tablets with Armor software aimed at stopping the artillery. Come Back Alive also organizes trainings to equip our military with crucial skills.”
