UC Chimes - Have a nice day!

Time goes by so fast! It is already winter like weather. The people, like me, who are over the middle ages, may have the same feeling. It assumes that the length of time is same always. But we feel that time goes faster than before.

Time goes by so fast! It is already winter like weather. The people, like me, who are over the middle ages, may have the same feeling. It assumes that the length of time is same always. But we feel that time goes faster than before. Some explain it by mathematical formula of fraction, one year for ten years child, it is 1/10, but for the 60s, 1/60. So the portion of 1 year seems to be felt differently depending on ages. Or some say that because modern people live by the divided time schedules, by 9 o'clock, to be there, and by 3 o'clock, to be done, etc., these sorts of time schedules make people feel time going faster.

No matter what and how we rationalize the concept of time, time is mysterious. Time isn't replaced in any circumstance. Once a time has gone, it is impossible to replace it by another one. So we have to use every time effectively and efficiently. Time isn't repeated again. We are able to watch an old movie again and again, but the time is never repeated by itself. Our life is the same as time goes; it is never repeated again. So life is one time event and we have to take it seriously. Time is always fair to everyone. Time doesn't play a role of favoritism or give an advantage to certain people. It is always fair and equal to everyone, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Time does not wait for people; it comes and goes by itself. There is neither mercy nor consolation in time. It is inexorable. Thus time is irreplaceable, unrepeatable and inexorable. That is what the time is!

On the other hand, people want their time replaced, repeated and favor for them. Some work hard to catch up and make up the time. Some think of the old good hay days again and again. Some just wait for a good thing happens sometime. No matter what they try to do, it is true that people cannot live in the past and in the future either. Yesterday has already gone and tomorrow has not come yet. Today is the day to live on. Today is the only day that we can make it be good or bad.

I wondered why the Bible stories are so often mixed up and confused with tense. Still I don't know a clear reason why they are. But what I do know is that people want to be mixed up and confused with tense, time. People are actually living in this way somehow. Sometimes we live in the past through memory, history or biography. And we live in the future by dream, vision and wishful thinking. So it is human nature that every time would be the present and everything is in here and now. People wish to live in the eternal present. Always today with everything in the present, Jürgen Moltmann called it "eternity" in theological term. If you live a good day today, and live every day like today, then you may have already been living in eternity, the permanent present. God wish you have a nice day!
