ASSINIBOIA - Berkley Jo Petersen, formerly of the Mitchellton district, has been awarded an $84,000 scholarship for her doctoral studies at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec
The scholarship was awarded by the Fonds de Recherche du Quebec-Nature et Technologies (FRQNT), a government agency. The FRQNT’s mission is to support and promote excellence in research and the training of the next generation of researchers in the fields of natural sciences, mathematical sciences and engineering, in order to stimulate the development of knowledge and innovation.
Petersen grew up in the Mitchellton district and attended Mossbank School, graduating in 2014. She received her Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in psychology at the University of Regina in 2019.
She achieved her Masters in Experimental Psychology at Concordia University in Montreal in 2021, where she studied how hearing and vision loss affect older adult’s balance and multitasking abilities.
Berkley is now a second year PhD student at Concordia University conducting research on brain training programs to improve older adults’ memory, mobility and multitasking abilities.
She will be presenting her Master’s research findings at the Canadian Association on Gerontology national conference in Regina in October 2022.
Berkley is the daughter of Dale and Joanne Petersen of Mitchellton and granddaughter of Cliff Petersen and Eveline Reid of Lafleche, and Myrna Rolfe and the late Gordon Rolfe of Gravelbourg.
