Members and guests of the Assiniboia and District Pro-Life group gathered for its banquet and program to share a message of hope and support at St. George鈥檚 parish hall in Assiniboia on April 30.
Guest speaker Wendy Dunn from Moose Jaw shared her personal story of abortion during the meeting. Dunn is an office and property manager who also works at the Informed Choices Centre.
鈥淚 didn鈥檛 know until way later how much it affected me,鈥 Dunn explained to the attendees about the emotional and psychological after-effects of abortion that society does not address. 鈥淚 had a sense of loss even though I made this choice.鈥
Dunn noted that back when she was younger, little counseling was given to young women with unplanned pregnancies and there was a lot of pressure to have the abortion. In many ways, this situation has not changed much today. In a frank explanation, Dunn explained the shame and impact of abortion on relationships that caused her anxiety and other effects. Her message to the group was that young women facing unplanned pregnancy need love and support. 鈥淚f you save the mother, you have a good chance of saving the baby,鈥 she added, recounting the support that she received from her own family.
The Pro-Life banquet and program was emceeded by Tom Mountain. The evening included music, speakers and informational announcements. The event opened with the national anthem, followed by a benediction and Doxology before the meal. The attendees shared a meal with dessert then continued the program with announcements of upcoming Pro-Life activities and announcements.
