ASSINIBOIA - National Police Week will be observed May 12 to 18 and the Assiniboia Detachment of the RCMP are holding several events in the communities they serve in their continued efforts to engage with the people in their communities in a social environment.
National Police Week is a public awareness campaign that encourages increased awareness and understanding between the police and the communities they serve.
This year’s theme, “Committed to Serve Together” acknowledges the crucial partnership between members of the police service, other first responders and the organizations and people in the communities they serve. Collaboration forms the cornerstone of effective crime prevention and public safety initiatives.
Ashley Burnay, RCMP detachment services assistant, said, “This will be our fourth annual event recognizing National Police week.”
Members of the RCMP and front office staff held a barbecue at Assiniboia on May 13; Gravelbourg, May 14 and Lafleche on May 15, all lunch-time events. The event is done as a drive-through barbecue.
“Every year has been a great turn out. We typically sell out and donate hundreds of dollars back to the community from these barbecues,” added Burnay.
Burnay also acknowledged that these efforts are a nice way for them to see the community in a friendly and social way, while celebrating the week with them.
