WEYBURN - I’ve been bespectacled since the seventh grade. Wearing glasses has been the bane of my existence since then.
Contact lenses provided a reprieve during my teens onward, but I was extremely near-sighted without them. Glasses were still necessary as a back up.
As my vision continued to deteriorate, and I needed progressive lenses, I was back to glasses full time.
A few years ago, cataracts started to develop. My eye doctor referred me to a specialist.
Dr. Labbie has been looking after my eye health for over two decades and I trust him completely. Plus he laughs at my jokes.
In January, I saw Dr. Chmiel from Regina, at the FYidoctors office here in Weyburn.
Since then, I have had surgery on both eyes.
The surgery was performed at the Weyburn hospital and all follow up appointments have been here in town.
I am amazed at the results of this surgery! Colours are brighter, everything is clearer and I can see … clearly!
I am also amazed by the technology. My “new” eyes are made by Johnson & Johnson and they have serial numbers.
Each procedure took about 15 minutes. Including pre-op and recovery, I was in and out in less than two hours.
Sitting in the waiting room prior to getting prepped, I chatted with other patients. Some were having their first surgery.
More than a few were apprehensive. Those who were having their second offered reassurance.
The nurses and doctor rotated us through the prep room, the OR and recovery like a well-oiled machine.
Each one of them explained every detail of what was going on and what to expect next.
They were cheerful, informative, positive and professional.
Plus they laughed at my jokes.
