The Assiniboia and District Library has a full slate of activities planned for the summer. The TD summer reading program will be running on Thursday afternoons from July 6 to August 24. The time is yet to be confirmed.
A special event takes place on Tuesday, July 25 at 2:30 p.m. with a performance by Lee and Sandy Paley. For over 30 years the duo has been sharing their songs with children, their families and teachers, touring in schools, libraries and communities across Canada. They have written and recorded over two hundred action-packed, visually rich songs, and created a television series called Ballooner Landing.
Maple Creek author Gabriel Chudleigh will be presenting her adult colouring book on Wednesday, July 26 at 6:30 p.m.
The Science Centre will be bringing its show for children on Thursday, August 10 at 2 p.m. There will be an author presentation with Heather Hobbs on Thursday, August 24. In addition, the teen reading club runs over the summer. As part of the club, teens will read a book for a chance to win prizes. The draw will be a box set of the latest in the Twilight Series and the Hunger Games.
The library also has on display books with the Canada 150 theme. In the photo some of the books featured are histories and recipe books.
Earlier in May, the library held a successful steak night fundraiser on May 11 with the funds going to support library programs and materials. Saskatchewan libraries had their funding restored by the Government of Saskatchewan to 2016-17 funding levels.
The renewed monies ensured that regional and municipal libraries and the interlibrary loan services remain operational. The announcement will provide $4.8 million in addition to the $3.5 million that was announced on March 22.
