Gordon F. Kells High School Cougar Corner

School year 2021-2022

CARLYLE - It’s that time again – we are back to school. After an exciting start, staff and students at Gordon F. Kells (GFK) High School have settled into a new year of classes and learning.

We would like to introduce a few new faces on the GFK staff. Georgia Dangstorp is teaching Grade 7-9 English language arts (ELA), art and careers. Diana Osiowy has taken over the science lab, teaching the 9-12 sciences and a workplace math. Klair Karmazinuk is in our building every second morning to teach Grade 10 ELA and help with the response to intervention program.

Extra-curricular sports are up and going as well. Cross-country training has begun, as well as golf and volleyball practices. Senior golf districts were held in Estevan this week – there are four boys competing. Junior golf districts are being held in Redvers on Sept. 18 with five students competing from GFK. Fitness club is being held Tuesday and Thursday at lunch and Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. – this club is open to students of all fitness/activity levels. Come on out.

The senior girls volleyball team, coached by Trent Johnson and Sarah Campbell, co-hosted the Mega Volley XI tournament this past weekend, with teams from 12 different schools competing.

Please encourage your child to be active in extra-curricular activities this year, all of which are a go. The student leadership team and Students Against Drunk Driving meet regularly – these groups help promote student involvement and engagement. Hats for a Cause happened Sept. 16 – students paid a dollar to wear a hat and the money raised goes to a worthy cause.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your student’s classroom teachers. Regular communication between the school and home is very important. Once again, we will be using the province-wide Edsby system as a communication and reporting platform.

There have been a few hiccups this year rolling out the program, but we expect to be sending out invitations to connect in the near future.
