Firefighters host water soccer competition

Three fire departments in southeast Saskatchewan recently gathered for some fun.

CARLYLE - Fire departments from Alameda, Manor and Carlyle got together last week for an evening of fun and fellowship.

The Carlyle Firemen’s Rodeo was cancelled last month due to ongoing health restrictions. Instead, the fire departments got together for a game of water soccer. Going 12 feet up in the air, a soccer ball was attached to a 30-yard cable and two teams of four used pressure fire hoses to propel the ball to the finish line.

“It didn’t matter who won,” said Carlyle Deputy Fire Chief Rob Klassen. “It is so nice to socialize once in a while without the risks and pressure of fighting a blazing fire. Our fire departments here in Carlyle, Manor, and Alameda get along very well and often we train together. A great bunch of guys and gals.”
