It is now official – the Alida Haunted House will be held during the last two weekends of October (22, 23, 29, 30 and 31). The group has decided to go ahead and host the event. There are of course COVID restrictions that must be followed.
One must be fully vaccinated and be able to show proof of your vaccinations. One must wear a mask while attending the event. Small groups (3-5) to tour through at same time. So far these are the only restrictions which seem to apply to our event. Please help our volunteers and comply with these restrictions – they are only following protocol and rules set out to help protect everyone.
The rink has surely taken on a new look when you look out onto the curling ice surface – it is one big black area where nothing can be seen, but when touring through one will find that there are about 20 different areas, tunnels or pathways with much paraphernalia and visitors present – you enter at your own risk!
This year they have decided to hold a murder mystery, where you will have a certain amount of time to solve the clues and escape the murder room. One must book in advance for this event, again only a small group may participate at one time.

The Alida Fun Fair it is also a go – it will be held on Oct. 31 from noon to 3 p.m. There will be lots of fun and games and treats for the young ones to enjoy. Make sure you wear your costume and enjoy the day. There will be no spooks at the haunted house during the fun fair; they will arrive later after the fun fair closes.
Betty-Jo De Jong of Lashburn has been down visiting with her dad, Bob Harrison for a while and while here also renewed acquaintances with a few friends as well.
Gail McLachlin spent a few days visiting with her family in Calgary – daughter, Grace, Luke McKenna and grandchildren Thea and Finn, son, Mitch Cowie and Andrea Gohm.
Randy and Glenda Zelionka of Loon Lake visited with his parents Lawrence and Dot Zelionka for a while in late September when they helped with cleaning up the garden areas and preparing for upcoming winter months.
Congratulations and best wishes to Trevor and Teresa (Johnston) Dyck who were married on the last weekend of September.
On Sept. 23, Ernest and Dianne Lemieux travelled to Lloydminster where they visited with family, son Michael, Lynsey and boys. They helped celebrate grandson Mason’s sixth birthday a few day early, then returned home on the 27th. While there Dianne drove to Lashburn to visit with Charlotte (Hine) Bishop, a friend from 60 years back – they did a lot of reminiscing.
Visiting with Brian and Margaret Peet for a few days this past week were her brother, Maurice and Cindy Germain of Regina. While here they helped the family celebrate Margaret’s birthday. Happy birthday Margaret, and may you have many more to come.
Members of the Golden Gate Centre hosted the Alzheimer’s Coffee Break on Sept. 29, where they had a fair good crowd attending throughout the afternoon hours. They raised approximately $484 for the Alzheimer’s Society. Way to go Alida.
Some members of the Greenfield family of Vancouver visited in the area on Oct. 4 as they were bringing their mother Vivian (née Rasmussen) Greenfield’s ashes back to be placed in the Dannevirke Lutheran Cemetery to be near her two of her younger sisters. Vivian had passed away last October (2020).
The Alida Hall and Rink Association have decided to hold a take-out fall supper on Nov. 7 at the Alida Hall. Pre-order by Nov. 1 and pre-payment is required. I for one can hardly wait for that delicious turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, carrots, coleslaw, a bun and pineapple dessert.
The Village of Alida and the R.M. of Reciprocity No. 32 are now under a fire ban as ordered by our fire department. Please be very cautious as it is so very dry out there.
