United Way Telethon surpasses $150,000 with hours remaining

Telethon total stood at $122,266 as of early Saturday.

ESTEVAN - The United Way Estevan continues to work its way towards its goal during the 48th annual Telethon.

The United Way was at $153,040 in donations as of Saturday morning at 9 a.m. The telethon has a fundraising goal of $348,000, which will support the organization's member agencies and community impact projects.

The telethon kicked off at 8 a.m.Friday morning and it featured entertainment throughout the day and into the overnight hours. School students and other youth organizations dotted the entertainment lineup in the telethon's initial hours. Bands and duets provided the entertainment Friday night.

Students from the Estevan Comprehensive School's student representative council ran the telethon during the overnight hours for the annual ECS Takeover. 

Additional entertainment is happening Saturday morning. 

The entire 33-hour event is taking place at the Estevan branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and will be broadcast live on Access Now TV. People can also watch it at unitedwayestevan.com. 

This year's theme is You are the Community. 

There are also dozens of hand-crafted bid items available for people to bid on through a silent auction. The Hearts and Hands Quilting Guild has supplied a quilt for a raffle.
