ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service dealt with assault, road accidents, impaired driving cases, truck theft and more late last week and into this week.

On Jan. 27, police received a report of a disturbance in the Hillside area. Members attended and learned that an assault had taken place and further that the individual who committed the assault was on conditions of no contact with the victim. The investigators located the 38-year-old Estevan man at a different residence in the city and arrested him for assault and breaching court-ordered conditions. He was lodged in cells to attend court on Jan. 27 to speak to the charges. No further information was immediately available.

In a related occurrence, when members located the above-noted man, they interrupted a domestic assault in progress involving two other common-law partners. As a result, a 43-year-old man was arrested for assault and was subsequently released on conditions of no contact with the victim and to attend Estevan Provincial court in March to speak to the matter.

Earlier last week, EPS members arrested an Estevan woman on outstanding warrants on Jan. 24.  Due to her significant level of intoxication and inability to care for herself or participate in the release process, she was lodged in cells to be released once sober.

Police also received a call about a disturbance at a local liquor establishment. Upon members' arrival on scene, the matter had resolved itself and those involved had left the business. No further problems were reported at that time.

The same day, a commercial business alarm was reported to EPS for which a property representative was not immediately available to attend to provide access. Additional work was done by EPS dispatch to contact the business owner, who attended while police cleared the scene and determined the alarm to be false.

On Jan. 25, EPS members were dispatched to a hit-and-run collision in a local business parking lot. Witness statements are pending, and the matter remains under investigation.

Police also assisted the RCMP with a driving complaint in their jurisdiction. The vehicle was located on the Estevan bypass and the driver was warned of their actions.

A follow-up investigation was conducted into a reported disturbance at a local liquor establishment. Surveillance video footage was obtained and two men involved were identified. The matter remains under investigation.

Police received a report of a vehicle striking a building and failing to notify the owner of the property before leaving the scene. The driver of the vehicle was identified, and the matter is still under investigation.

Police issued a driver's license suspension to a 19-year-old Estevan man for testing positive for THC during a traffic stop. The individual's vehicle was also impounded for three days.

Police received a Report Impaired Driver (RID) call. The vehicle was located and the driver was determined to not be impaired.

EPS members attended a local liquor establishment to a report of a fight in progress. Through the investigation, a 39-year-old man from West Pine Ridge, Man., was arrested and lodged in cells, to be released when sober. While at the business, a friend of the arrested man demanded a ride home from the police. He was denied and told to take a taxi, call a friend for a ride or walk to his destination. A short time later, the same individual contacted EPS dispatch and demanded a ride home which was again denied, at which point he fraudulently reported a crime in progress and uttered threats to assault a woman to force police to attend. Members returned to the scene and subsequently arrested the 46-year-old Regina man for public mischief and being intoxicated in public. He was lodged in EPS cells, to be released when sober with a future court date in Estevan Provincial Court to speak to the charge of public mischief.

Following a traffic stop, members arrested and charged a 38-year-old Estevan man for impaired driving.  He was subsequently released and will appear in Estevan Provincial Court at a later date to speak to the charge.

On Jan. 26, a 39-year-old man from Manitoba was arrested and charged with uttering threats. He was released and will attend Estevan Provincial Court in March to speak to the charge.
