ESTEVAN — The EPS dealt with 51 occurrences over the weekend of Aug. 16-18. Files included reports of suspicious persons/vehicles, thefts, traffic complaints, assaults, a Report Impaired Drivers (RID) line tip and bylaw complaints.
Of those occurrences, six tickets were issued for various infractions under the Traffic Safety Act.
On Aug. 18, members attended east of the city to the bypass where a semi/trailer was observed driving erratically and swerving on the highway. A traffic stop was made, and the motorist was found to be sober. The driver was spoken to and warned of their driving actions.
A report was made concerning a number of youths within the construction area on Fourth Street moving pylons around. Member attended, but the youths were not found. The public is reminded not to enter these restricted areas without approval.
A report was made regarding a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot in northeast Estevan. The vehicle was located and a traffic stop was made. No issues were found.
Members attended a northeast Estevan residence on a report of a child custody disagreement. The matter was defused without issue, and advice was provided regarding family court.
Members conducted a traffic stop, and a Novice 2 driver was asked to provide a breath sample via the approved alcohol screening device, which came back with a 30 milligram per cent result. Due to zero tolerance for alcohol for a new driver, she was issued a 60-day driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for three days.
Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle to check for sobriety due to driving actions. Three people were arrested as a result. A 25-year-old man from Arcola was arrested for impaired driving and obstructing a police officer, and the other two men from Weyburn were charged with obstructing a police officer. They will appear in court at a later date to speak to their charges.
Members conducted a curfew check. A man was not abiding by his conditions. He was arrested the following night and held for court Monday morning. No further information was immediately available.
Officers investigated a report of a child abduction and assault. The child abduction was unfounded as it was determined to be civil in nature. The assault remains under investigation.
Three youths were charged and put on conditions resulting from an investigation into several break and enters in the Willow Park Greens area.
EPS also issued a reminder, asking the public to ensure that all of their vehicles are properly secured and all valuables were removed.
"Also, please make sure that your property is properly secured including any outdoor buildings like sheds or garages.
"Calling EPS with suspicious activity at the time of witnessing it assists the police greatly. Keep in mind to obtain descriptors of clothing or vehicles and last direction of travel if possible," the EPS said in a media release.
