CARLYLE - The Carlyle Cougars have announced a special addition for their roster ahead of their Dec. 13 game against the Kipling-Windthorst Oil Kings.
Todd Holt, 51, will skate with the Cougars alongside his sons, Cougars' forwards Kaelan and Taysen Holt.
"I want to thank the Cougars organization for the opportunity to do this. I've never had the opportunity to play with them (Kaelan and Taysen), so this will be the first time to be able to play with my sons in a competitive setting," Holt said in a news release. "The chance to play with my boys is a dream come true and I'm very excited to come to Carlyle and do this. I am extremely grateful and appreciate what the Cougars have done to make this happen."
Holt, who is originally from the Alameda area, remains the all-time leading scorer for the Broncos. He posted 216 goals and 207 assists for 423 regular season points over five seasons from 1989-90 to 1993-94. In two of his five season with the Broncos, Holt eclipsed the 100-point mark twice, and was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
Holt went on to play eight professional seasons in the U.S. and Europe before returning home to southeast Saskatchewan. He is a former Big Six scoring champion. .
"Todd still plays two games a week out in Alberta, so he hasn't really stopped playing. He can still move, " said a member of the Cougars' executive. "Not too many fathers get a chance to play with their kids in a real, non-rec-league type game. We are excited for the Holt family and look forward to just being a part of this. We know it is something they will remember forever."
Holt will wear No. 13 on a line with his boys when the Oil Kings square off with the Cougars. The game starts at 8 p.m.
