Two people charged in White Bear homicide appear in court

ESTEVAN - The two people charged in connection with the death of Talon Lonethunder at the White Bear First Nations (WBFN) in early December had their matters in Estevan Provincial Court on Monday.

Jeremy Whitebear, who is charged with second-degree murder in Lonethunder's death, had his matters adjourned to Dec. 18 in Carlyle Provincial Court. He was in court that day, and his next court appearance is Jan. 8, 2025, also in Carlyle. 

Dwayne Maxie, who is charged with manslaughter, will be back in court on Jan. 15, 2025, in Carlyle at 10 a.m.

Background: At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 3, the Carlyle RCMP received a report of an injured individual at a residence on the White Bear First Nations. Officers immediately responded and located the 33-year-old Lonethunder deceased. He was originally from White Bear and residing in Coronach.

Charges were announced Dec. 5. Both men were on the run at that time. Whitebear was arrested two days later at WBFN. Maxie was apprehended Dec. 12 in Regina.
