Strong winds knocked out power to about 1,400 southeast customers

Strong winds forced crews to stand down while trying to restore power west of Estevan.

Power outages have been occurring in the southeast.

SOUTHEAST SASKATCHEWAN - SaskPower crews were called to a number of power outages in southeast Saskatchewan due to strong winds Wednesday.

SaskPower reported on its X account at 11:17 a.m. that crews had been dispatched and are determining the cause and repair time for an outage reported west of Estevan, including Torquay, Outram and surrounding rural areas. In the early afternoon, SaskPower said crews were working to repair damage .

An update issued at 4:16 p.m. said due to high winds, crews would cease work until they could safely continue repairs "in Outram and surrounding area".

Customers in the Outram area were restored gradually during the evening, and SaskPower said everyone was back on by just after midnight once winds died down enough to safety complete repairs. 

Emergency repairs were needed Thursday morning in Torquay, Outram and all surrounding rural areas. SaskPower reported the outage lasted less than 30 minutes. 

Crews were also dispatched just before noon to determine the cause of and repair time for an outage reported in Storthoaks. At 2:22 p.m. SaskPower said crews were working to repair damage. An update at 5:06 p.m. estimated the restoration time would be at 7 p.m., but SaskPower said in an email to the Mercury and Â鶹´«Ã½AV that the power was back on at 5:36 p.m. 

Crews were also called to damage caused by trees in the Bienfait area just after 3:30 p.m. The Crown corporation reported repairs had been completed and power had been restored just before 5 p.m.

Power outages have also been reported in Weyburn, Windthorst and Radville in the southeast Wednesday. 

In total, SaskPower reported about 1,400 customers affected by wind-related outages on Wednesday.
