REGINA - Sentencing submissions have been entered in the case of a Carievale man found guilty of abducting his daughter, who was seven years old at the time, to prevent her from getting a COVID-19 vaccination.
Michael Gordon Jackson, 55, appeared in Regina Court of King’s Bench Oct. 21. The matter was adjourned for the judge’s decision on Dec. 6.
In January 2022, Saskatchewan RCMP issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for Jackson, after he was charged with abduction in contravention of a custody or parenting order. He did not return the girl to her mother as scheduled in November 2021.
Mounties located Jackson and his daughter in Vernon, B.C., in February 2022.
He was convicted by a jury in April of one count of abduction in contravention of a custody order. Jackson represented himself.
The Jackson trial started on April 8 and closing arguments occurred April 18. The jury began deliberations on April 19 and reached the verdict before the end of the day.
