ESTEVAN - The largest recreational hockey tournament in Saskatchewan is underway.
The Estevan Strippers' 40th annual Molson Spring Bust Tournament opened on April 3 and 4, with games at Affinity Place and the Power Dodge Arena.
Additional games will be played April 5, 6 and 7, with contests happening at the Bienfait Memorial Arena in addition to the two Estevan rinks. The champions in each of the divisions will be decided on the final day.
A total of 36 teams are entered, with eight in the women's division, and 14 each in the men's over-45 and over-30 divisions. The tournament has a considerable economic impact, as about half of the teams are from outside of the Estevan area and players will be spending a couple nights in the city.
The tournament is also a fundraiser for projects in the community. There will be cabarets on April 5 and 6 at the Power Dodge Curling Centre, with live music courtesy of Crossroads on the first night and Third Degree Birnz the second. Hundreds of people attend the cabarets each year.
SASKTODAY.ca and the next edition of the Mercury will have a full recap of the event.
