Editor's Note: This is our latest Nelson Motors 4-H Member of the Month Profile. We thank Nelson Motors for their continued support of this promotion, and we applaud 4-H for the work it does for young people in the southeast.

Name: Piper Bigney

Club: Carnduff and Area Beef 4-H Club

Age: 17

Age group: Senior

Years in 4-H: Six

Piper Bigney joined 4-H because she wanted to try something new besides hockey and rodeo.

Other members of her family were involved with 4-H when they were young, and constantly reminded her about their experiences, so she thought it would be a good idea to join. It's been a lot of fun ever since.

"When we go places, we always meet new people, and learn how to raise cattle and build your own herd," said Bigney.

Her time in with the Carnduff and Area Beef 4-H Club allowed her to show cattle in Brandon at the Royal Winter Fair. They have also been to Canadian Western Agribition on a couple of occasions. Both proved to be a lot of fun to attend.

And she has participated in a regional 4-H show and sale. Bigney has also been part of 4-H programs such as public skating and curling. The club has done well at the junior level in curling over the years, she said.

Bigney is the club's president this year. A couple of new members have joined the club, so Bigney tries to help them feel as comfortable as possible.

"They can have fun at the meetings with the rest of us," said Bigney.

She said she would recommend 4-H to other people. The Carnduff club tries to go places all of the time and it does new things.

"Our club is super welcoming to people, and we like helping out everyone and teaching new things they didn't know. Overall, it's a pretty good club," said Bigney.
