Four accused in Estevan drug bust back in court

All four will be back in court on Nov. 4.

ESTEVAN - The four people accused in connection with a drug bust in Estevan in early August were back in Estevan Provincial Court on Monday.

Cody Blaine Klyne, Devon William Martell, Brennan Stephen McKeen and Jessica Louise Rutter-McKeen all had their matters adjourned to Nov. 4.

Kylne, Martell and Rutter-McKeen's matters are for election, in which a decision will be made on whether their trial will be by judge or jury. McKeen's appearance is to be spoken to.

Background: The Estevan Police Service (EPS), with assistance from the Joint Tactical Support Team (JTST), RCMP International Border Enforcement Team (IBET) and the Weyburn Police Service (WPS), executed search warrants at five locations in Estevan in August. The four accused individuals were charged with possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine); possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine); trafficking a schedule 1 substance (cocaine); trafficking a schedule 1 substance (methamphetamine_; and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Klyne is facing two charges of violating the conditions of his release order, stemming from a prior offence.

None of the charges have been proven in court.

Also on Monday, Timothy Irwin had his latest appearance. His matters were also adjourned to Nov. 4.

He is charged with one count each of sexual assault, administering a noxious substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine [crystal meth]), and unauthorized possession of prohibited weapon (brass knuckles).

Klyne was also supposed to be back in court Tuesday, along with Roderick Thomas Mitchell, for a preliminary hearing on a drug bust that occurred in February, but the session was postponed to June 2025.

Klyne and Mitchell were arrested and charged in February with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine) and trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking.
