Estevan police stop impaired motorist, handle other calls

Police handled numerous called on March 28 and responded to other incidents.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service was kept busy in recent days with a variety of calls.

The EPS received a report March 26 of a vehicle stolen from outside of a local business. The exact date of the theft is uncertain at this time, and the matter remains under investigation.

A complaint of an email scam involving crypto currency was received. No personal information was provided and a financial loss did not occurred.

A female was reported to be causing a disturbance at a residence in north Estevan. She was gone upon police arrival, but a short time later an individual believed to be the same person was reported to be causing a disturbance at a local business. Members attended, spoke with her and provided her a ride to her residence to prevent a continuation of the behaviour.

The EPS received a report of a possible impaired driver leaving a local restaurant. The vehicle was located and a traffic stop was conducted. The driver showed no signs of impairment and passed a mandatory roadside screening test.

EPS members conducted multiple compliance checks March 27 on individuals bound by court-ordered conditions. All those checked were found to be at their approved residences and abiding by their respective conditions.

Members attended to a local residence to keep the peace while a female removed her belongings following a dispute. Nothing criminal occurred and the female left the residence without incident.

An alarm was reported at a business in central Estevan. Police attended and confirmed nobody was in the building. The cause of the alarm is unknown but might have been related to the heavy winds at the time.

An individual reported a theft of a cell phone. The matter remains under investigation.

The EPS received a report March 28 of a male tying a rope to the eaves of a local school. Members attended, spoke to the male and determined that he wasn’t doing anything criminal. He was asked to move along.

Police attended to a disturbance in the Trojan subdivision. All parties involved were spoken to and a temporary resolution was mediated.

A request was received to conduct a wellness check on an intoxicated male. EPS members attended to the individual’s residence and confirmed that he was safe. He required no additional assistance.

Police received a report of a theft from a local business in the industrial area. The matter is still under investigation.

While on patrol, an EPS member located a three-vehicle collision. The incident was minor in nature and the vehicles were able to be driven, but one of the passengers complained of a possible injury. The driver of one of the vehicles was issued a summary offence ticket for driving too fast for road conditions.

Police received two separate reports of criminal harassment. Both matters are still under investigation.

The EPS received a complaint through the Report Impaired Drivers line from the 400-block of Third Street. Members patrolled the area and located the suspect vehicle parked at a residence, where it remained for the rest of the night.

Police responded to a dispute and assault involving residents on George Street. All parties were spoken to and the argument was resolved for the night. Further investigation into the assault allegation is underway.

A 53-year old female was issued a driver's licence suspension and vehicle impoundment for testing positive for THC on an oral fluid device, after suspicious driving actions were observed by members on patrol.

A complaint was received from two females of indecent communications from a male on social media. The investigation is ongoing.

Several youths were spoken to and a ticket was issued for stunting after a vehicle was observed driving erratically in the Walmart parking lot.

The EPS received a report March 29 of an assault involving tenants in a multi-dwelling rental property. The matter is still under investigation.

Police received a report of a vehicle being driven backwards in the drive-thru at a local restaurant. The occupants were also reported to have been rude to staff at the business. The vehicle was located a short time later and the individuals were warned by police for their driving actions and behaviour towards the staff.

A complaint of a tenant uttering threats against another tenant of the same building was received and remains under investigation.

EPS members were requested March 30 to attend a residence to assist EMS staff. A patient was subsequently transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, and EPS Police and Crisis Team (PACT) members attended to follow-up with the individual.
