Estevan police called to stolen bicycle, other thefts

The EPS advises the public not to leave their property unattended and insecure, as it creates a crime of opportunity.

ESTEVAN - Members of the Estevan Police Service are investigating the theft of a bicycle.

According to the July 3 police report, police received a report of the theft of a bike from outside a local business while the owner was shopping inside. The matter is still under investigation.

The EPS advises the public not to leave their property unattended and insecure, as it creates a crime of opportunity.

That same day, police received a report of an unwanted guest who continues to return to the complainant's residence after being asked not to be there.  Police have taken a statement and the matter is still under investigation.

Police attended to a residence to conduct a welfare check on an individual who was having some difficulties. Police are working to connect the individual to services.

Members attended a south Estevan park to a report of a disturbance. The EPS was able to mediate and diffuse the situation.

Police received a complaint July 4 regarding individuals operating scooters on the city's streets. The individuals were weaving in traffic and the complainant was concerned that they might get injured. Members remind operators that they still have to abide by the rules of the road and should be conscious that their visibility to other drivers is limited, so they should ride defensively.

Members received a report of theft of mail. The complainant reported that their mail isn’t being forwarded to them from their previous address. The matter is under investigation.

Police received a report of a gas theft. An individual provided invalid government authorization for purchase of fuel, but the validity wasn’t determined until after the individual left. The matter is under investigation.

Officers attended to a disturbance in northeast Estevan. Members and the Police and Crisis Team attended to assist and appear to have the situation resolved.

Police were dispatched to a noise complaint at an apartment building in north Estevan on July 5. The resident was warned about the bylaw.

Officers were advised of an insecure door at a downtown business. The owner was contacted and attended to lock the door.

Police conducted numerous traffic stops and a total of 17 mandatory approved screening device demands were made. All drivers were found to be sober. Many spectators at the River Jamm 24 concert at the Hidden Valley Golf and RV Resort took advantage of the shuttle bus service.

Police were dispatched to a residence on July 6 for a report of a domestic dispute. Members attended and determined that nothing physical had occurred. Members were able to mediate the situation and no further police involvement was necessary.

Police conducted a traffic stop. A 23-year-old motorist from Saskatoon had a suspended licence. He was charged under the Traffic Safety Act and the vehicle was impounded.
